Career Development Theory forms the foundation upon which career development practitioners understand and interact with clients/students. This program will cover four career development theories, so that you can make informed choices when deciding how best to serve your clients/students. Whether you have studied career development theory, or not, join us and learn from our panel of experts.

PRESENTERS

Dr. Julie Cerrito has been engaged in the counseling profession for over twenty years. She spent twelve years of her career as a practicing school counselor in Pennsylvania public schools. Currently, she is employed as a counselor educator at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Cerrito earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Penn State University and holds credentials including National Certified Counselor, National Certified School Counselor, and Approved Clinical Supervisor. Her research interests focus on issues related to access, equity, and inclusion for underserved populations with a specialization in school and career counseling. She also studies the use of online career guidance and planning systems with PK-12 students. Dr. Cerrito has earned various awards including Counselor Educator of the Year by the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association, The Edwin L. Herr Fellowship for Excellence in Counseling Leadership and Scholarship by Chi Sigma Iota Academic & Professional Honor Society International, the Partner in Education Award by the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling, the Faculty Senate Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award by the University of Scranton, and the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarly Activity. Dr. Diandra J. Prescod is an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Counselor Education at the University of Connecticut. She currently serves as the Trustee for Higher Education Career Counselors and Specialists for the National Career Development Association and served as a member of the organizing committee for PACDA. In 2021 she created NCDAs Career Teaching Academy which will welcome its inaugural cohort during the 2022 conference. In her previous role, Dr. Prescod spent five years as an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education and Program Coordinator of Career Counseling at Pennsylvania State University. While at Penn State, she created and directed the Academic Wellness and Career Consultations program which provides career counseling services to students in mechanical engineering. She is a Certified Career Services Provider and Licensed Professional Counselor with expertise in mental health and career counseling. In addition to more than $2.5M in sponsored research funding focused on career development, Dr. Prescod has authored numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed articles. She has over 50 presentations at academic conferences across the United States and in Germany, Italy, Hungary, and Austria. LinkedIn

Dr. Hyung Joon Yoon, Ph.D., NCDA Fellow, is an associate professor of Workforce Education and Development at Penn State University and the Professor-in-Charge of the Workforce Education and Development program. He strives to facilitate the career development of employees through research, theory building, training, and Organization Development (OD) consulting. Dr. Yoon co-developed the Hope-Action Theory (HAT) which , a new theory that is being used internationally along with associated measures, the Hope-Action Inventory (HAI) and the Hopeful Career State (HCS). He also developed the Human Agency-Based Individual Transformation (HABIT) model and the Assessment of Human Agency (AHA), based on Albert Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory of Human Agency (SCTHA). Dr. Yoon has co-authored three books and he was recognized as an NCDA Fellow status by the National Career Development Association (NCDA) for his significant contributions to the career development profession through his research, teaching, and leadership. He is the Associate Editor of Human Resource Development Review, a premier theory-building journal in the field of Human Resource Development and a Master Trainer of for NCDA’s Facilitating Career Development curriculum and the Certification in Hope-Action Theory and Practice (CHATP). He received his Ph.D. degree from Penn State University. LinkedIn

Dr. Brian Hutchison has worked on a farm, in 3 factories, as an Army infantryman, driving a school bus, as a teacher in middle and high school, running a small medical marketing research company, as a counselor, and now as a professor. These work experiences inform his scholarship and leadership in the field of career development and counseling. Scholarship focuses on global career development, career interventions, career theory, and career social justice. Practical work includes on-line career coaching clients, providing career and mental health specific clinical supervision, training workshops, keynote speaking, and designing career education programs. He served as President of the Asia Pacific Career Development and Treasurer of the National Career Development Association. Dr. Hutchison received the National Career Development Association's Merit Award in 2020 and the Association for Humanistic Counseling's Advocate & Social Justice Award in 2015. He earned a PhD and Master’s in Counselor Education & Supervision from Penn State University. His most recent book is School to Career, a high school textbook for Career and Technical Education students. LinkedIn

    NCDA CEUs: You may register to earn 2 NCDA CEUs. You must attend the webinar live to receive the CEUs. CEUs are free for PACDA members; $10 for those who are not members of PACDA.     Act 48 credit:

    PACDA and PSCA members: After the event, complete the post-event survey, then email ceu@thepacda.org to obtain your certificate of attendance, which you can then submit via the PSCA website.

    Not a PACDA or PSCA member?: You may be able to obtain Act 48 credit. After the event, complete the post-event survey, then email ceu@thepacda.org to obtain your certificate of attendance. Submit this to the Pennsylvania Department of Education via your local education agency, which will have the final say on whether this program qualifies for Act 48 credit. Or, you may submit via the Pennsylvania School Counselor Association for $10.
