MACCA PRESENTS
Each of Us an Expert - Wait, I'm Too Old to Retire
What Comes Next After a Successful Career?

Friday May 12, 2023 | 12:00PM - 1:00PM

Via Zoom

It can be daunting to plan our life “in retirement,” even as we know this next chapter is going to happen, whether we plan for it, or not. As coaches, our clients may be facing the same uncertainty.

While financial planning is standard practice, we rarely consider the psychological and practical considerations. For Gen X’ers and baby boomers transitioning from more traditional work arrangements, going from 100 MPH to 0 can seem unthinkable, especially if the retirement decision is being made for us (i.e., we’re being nudged out the door).

So, what can we do?  And, as coaches, how can we help older clients who may be struggling with this issue. Join MACCA and Emily Rothberg, Rothberg Coaching, LLC, for an interactive session as we explore this next chapter of life. Emily will 1) share why emotional retirement planning is so daunting, 2) offer options, including a framework, for determining what’s possible, and 3) offer tips and activities to take away as food for thought.

Presenter: Emily Rothberg

Emily helps people navigate career and life transitions -- and grow as leaders and human beings.  Previously, Emily held leadership positions at Fortune 100 companies, and served on the boards of Washington DC-area nonprofit organizations. Ever since her first career as a public high school teacher, Emily has continued to find joy in helping others find their unique path forward.

Emily received her Certified Professional Coach (CPC) certification from the College for Executive Coaching (an ICF-certified coaching program).  Her master’s degree includes a dual specialty in Conflict Analysis & Resolution, and Race & Ethnicity, from George Mason University, and she brings unique insight into how systemic factors (race, class, power, gender, etc.) play out in the workplace.

She is currently a member of the Interim Leadership Committee, and the Career Development Steering Committee of Washington Networking Group (WNG). She also is on the Pro Bono Committee of ICF-DC (the International Coaching Federation’s DC Chapter). Emily also serves as a volunteer mentor for Upwardly Global, helping newcomers restart careers in the U.S.  A long-time resident of the Greater Washington area, Emily proudly raised two boys and now resides in Mclean, Virginia, with her husband, Peter and her 80lb rescue pup, Ellie.
