Strategies for Pursuing a Career Pivot

RESCHEDULED!

Thursday, June 8, 2023

5 - 7 PM

As career development professionals, we support clients and students who wish to change careers. Our speaker, Jenny Foss, is an expert in the field and will provide us with insights and advice to enable our candidates to maximize their career pivot success. Jenny will respond to some prepared questions (see below), but we will also have time set aside for questions from attendees.

  • Strategies to consider in support of a career pivot?
    • Getting a new credential? If so, what’s the best way to leverage that new capability?
    • What about internships? Volunteering?
    • When (if ever) does direct mail offer an opportunity to support a career pivot?
    • Is teaching an effective strategy for career switchers? Entrepreneurship?
  • Pros and Cons of pivots to adjacent functions or sectors?
  • What to do when you lack the specific requirements for a posted role:
    • Handling online applications
    • Interviewing effectively
    • Persuading a recruiter to advance you as a candidate
  • Recommendations for gaining support for an internal career pivot?
  • Is there an optimal time for career pivots? Does the strategy change based on age / stage of life?
  • Other paths for a career change?
