Career Services – Historical Perspective and Future Outlook
Wednesday 10/29, Noon-2 PM Eastern (Zoom)
Dr. Robert Orndorff will review the evolution of the career services profession over the last 20 years. He’ll discuss the factors that have contributed to our present challenges and propose strategies and goals for future direction.

Bob is the Senior Director of Career Services for Penn State and an Associate Professor in Counselor Education. He also serves as a training specialist, leading professional development seminars for Penn State faculty and staff. With more than 35 years in the field, Bob has held career services roles at four other universities, including Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Georgetown University, Moravian College, and Elon University. College, and Elon University. Bob’s program at Georgetown won a national award for “the best educational program related to career services in the nation” and was highlighted on Good Morning America.
Additionally, Bob is a career consultant in the education, business, and government sectors. He has produced professional development seminars for returning military personnel and their families and conducted day-long training for Army personnel in the Pentagon. Bob has published numerous articles and at least five books; most recently, he was the lead author of The PITA Principle: How to work with and avoid becoming a Pain In The A**. A frequent keynote speaker for regional and national conferences, he has spoken to student athletes at numerous colleges and universities in the Northeastern region under the auspices of the Athlete Network. Most recently, Bob was the keynote speaker at the National Association of Educational Office Professionals annual conference in July 2025.
Bob earned his Doctor of Education at Penn State University in Counselor Education with a focus on Career Development. He specializes in leadership and higher ed management. He also holds an MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Mathematics from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.

Not a PACDA or PSCA member?: You may be able to obtain Act 48 credit. After the event, complete the post-event survey, then email ceu@thepacda.org to obtain your certificate of attendance. Submit this to the Pennsylvania Department of Education via your local education agency, which will have the final say on whether this program qualifies for Act 48 credit. Or, you may submit via the Pennsylvania School Counselor Association for $10.
