Career-related trauma affects many people today. Economic insecurity, primarily caused by inflation, deflates both ego and pocketbook. Will I be able to meet my mortgage, feed my family, and pay my medical bills? These are common worries. What jobs will be cut next, and will AI replace me in the career I am preparing to enter? These issues stress both workers and college students alike, causing feelings of depression and, in some cases, hopelessness. Career trauma has become an epidemic that affects mental and, eventually, physical health. This Lunch and Learn outlines the workplace issues and health consequences, while also offering techniques that career counselors can use to help clients cultivate equanimity and resilience. The end goal is to eliminate the job-related paralysis frequently caused by career-related trauma and the negative thinking that accompanies it.
